Job summary

Barloworld Equipment (Pty) Ltd in Northern Cape seeks a hands-on Assistant to support mechanics with maintenance and repair work on machines and components. You will ensure the right tools are within reach and assist with parts preparation in a safe, orderly workshop.

Role requires following instructions under supervision; a Code B driving licence is advantageous. forklift and overhead crane certifications should be obtainable within 90 days of appointment.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Able to obtain forklift operator certification within 90 days of appointment.
• Able to obtain overhead crane operator certification within 90 days of appointment.
• Able to follow instructions under supervision.
• Driver's license – Code B is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with moderate to complex maintenance and repair work on machines/components.
• Know and fetch the right tools for each job for the mechanic/technician.
• Physically lift/move up to 20 kg or use lifting/slinging equipment for larger objects.
• Clean and maintain facilities and equipment.
• Assist artisans to obtain and check parts for jobs.
• Maintain a safe and orderly workplace.

Key Outputs

• Assist the mechanic(s) in performing moderate to complex maintenance and repair work on machines and / or components
• Know which tools are used for which jobs and ensure the mechanic / technician has them within reach
• Physically lift, keep in place and / or move up to 20kg or use appropriate lifting and slinging equipment for objects larger in size
• Clean and maintain facilities and equipment
• Assist artisan to obtain and check parts for particular jobs
• Maintain a safe and orderly workplace

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

• Grade12
• Ability to obtain certification as forklift operator within 90 days of appointment
• Ability to obtain certification as overhead / job crane operator within 90 days of appointment
• Ability to follow instructions under supervision
• Drivers licence – Code B will be an added advantage
