Job summary

ESG Recruitment Limited is seeking a diligent Material Handler for our Johannesburg manufacturing client. The role focuses on loading, unloading and positioning roller units, with emphasis on safety and accurate alignment of components.

You will operate lifting equipment under instruction, support feeding materials through machines, perform basic maintenance, and keep the work area clean and safe while adhering to LOTO and PPE guidelines.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent; advantageous.
• 1–2 years in manufacturing/production/material-handling advantageous.
• Ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
• Physically fit; able to perform manual handling.
• Forklift/overhead crane experience or certification advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist with loading, unloading, positioning and alignment of roller units and materials.
• Safely assist with installation and removal of rollers using lifting equipment.
• Support feeding of materials through the machine and monitor the process for irregularities.
• Conduct basic cleaning and housekeeping around rollers and machinery.
• Inspect rollers for wear, damage, debris or misalignment and report defects to the Supervisor/Foreman.
• Assist with basic lubrication and routine maintenance activities as instructed.
• Operate or assist with forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment as trained.
• Ensure materials and roller units are stored and handled safely.
• Follow all prescribed SHE, machine safety, PPE, lifting and LOTO procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe working area.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects and incidents immediately.
• Perform any other reasonable duties related to the operational requirements of the department.

• Inspect rollers for visible wear, damage, scratches, debris or misalignment and report defects to the Supervisor/Foreman.
• Assist with basic lubrication and routine maintenance activities as instructed.
• Operate or assist with the use of forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment, where authorised and appropriately trained.
• Ensure materials and roller units are stored and handled safely.
• Follow all prescribed SHE, machine safety, PPE, lifting and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe working area.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects and incidents immediately.
• Perform any other reasonable duties related to the operational requirements of the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 or equivalent will be advantageous.
• 1-2 years working experience in a manufacturing, production, machine-assistance or material-handling environment will be advantageous.
• Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good understanding of workplace safety requirements.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual handling activities.
• Forklift and/or overhead crane experience or certification will be advantageous.
