Job summary

Barloworld Equipment is seeking an experienced Caterpillar technician to perform scheduled services, maintenance and complex repairs on heavy equipment at customer sites or Barloworld locations.

You will conduct machine inspections and technical analyses, compile clear reports, and provide recommendations to customers. The role requires a Red Seal, five years post-qualification experience on CAT machines, and strong diagnostic skills.

Qualifications

• Matric/ Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Red Seal (Earthmoving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic) required.
• Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience on Caterpillar machines.
• Caterpillar 6060 excavator experience is essential.
• Read and interpret Caterpillar system schematics.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled services, maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar earthmoving equipment at customer sites or at Barloworld Equipment sites.
• Perform machine inspections and technical analysis with accurate reports and recommendations.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose machine systems and carry out repairs to ensure optimal utilization and availability.
• Maintain professional image while representing Barloworld Equipment.
• Adhere to contamination control standards and OEM quality requirements.
• Manage admin tasks: labour booking, service reports, part returns, expenses, etc.
• Ensure work quality and productivity standards are met.

Job description

• Carry out scheduled services, maintenance, and repairs (Disassemble, inspect and assemble) on Earthmoving Equipment on customer sites or at Barloworld Equipment sites.
• Carry out Machine Inspections and Technical Analysis (TA's) on machines or components, compile accurate reports with recommendations to the customers.
• Efficiently trouble shoot and diagnose machine systems and carry out repairs to ensure optimal utilization and availability of machines.
• Maintain professional image when representing Barloworld Equipment
• Maintain and work according to BWE Contamination Standards
• Ensure that the ultimate quality standards are maintained on the work performed according to OEM standards.
• Control own admin (labour booking, service reports, part returns, expenses etc.)
• Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

• Matric/ Grade 12
• Qualified in relevant trade, red seal (e.g. Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic/ Diesel Mechanic)
• Minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience on Caterpillar machines.
• Caterpillar 6060 excavator experience is essential
• Machine specific technical knowledge and skills on Caterpillar Equipment systems.
• Good understanding of operation systems on Caterpillar equipment.
• Must be able to read and understand Caterpillar equipment system schematics.
• Sound interpersonal and communication skills
