The Kosher Deli Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Deli Department, ensuring exceptional product quality, food safety compliance, customer service excellence, and adherence to operational standards. This role requires strong hands‑on experience in Kosher food preparation and a thorough understanding of Kosher requirements, practices, and customer expectations. The successful candidate will drive sales growth, maximize department profitability, and create an outstanding customer experience by maintaining high merchandising standards, product availability, and service excellence within the Hypermarket environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 Training in Food Retail and Management of Resources / Hospitality
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Deli/Food Retail
- Minimum 2-3 year supervisory/management experience
- Previous experience working with Kosher food, preferably in a Kosher Deli, kitchen, food retail or catering environment
- Practical knowledge and understanding of Kosher food preparation, handling, storage and operational requirements
- Experience working within a Kosher food environment and understanding the importance of maintaining Kosher standards and procedures
- Experience in food preparation and/or a culinary environment will be advantageous
- Ability to work effectively with customers and colleagues within a diverse community

Key Responsibilities
- Merchandising Management Conduct regular quality checks on merchandise. Execute plano guides 100%. Handle products in accordance with SOPs and applicable Kosher requirements. Ensure the department is ready for trade by store opening time. Ensure sufficient product availability to meet customer demand. Maintain appropriate product handling, storage and preparation standards. Ensure all products are displayed and handled in accordance with required food safety and Kosher standards. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping throughout the department. Monitor promotional activities and ensure adherence to the promotional calendar. Monitor sell‑by dates and ensure correct stock rotation. Minimise waste while maintaining product quality and availability.
- Kosher Food Standards & Compliance Ensure that all Kosher food preparation, handling, storage and merchandising requirements are consistently maintained. Ensure the department follows all applicable Kosher procedures and controls. Maintain a strong understanding of the requirements associated with Kosher food preparation and retail. Ensure that staff are appropriately trained and understand the importance of maintaining Kosher standards. Work closely with relevant stakeholders to address any Kosher‑related operational requirements or non‑conformances. Demonstrate sensitivity to the expectations and requirements of the Kosher customer community.
- Food Safety & Hygiene Ensure that hygiene and housekeeping standards are maintained. Ensure correct stock rotation. Monitor adherence to food safety, health and safety and applicable Kosher standards. Manage non‑conformances through effective corrective action. Implement cleaning schedules and check effective cleaning and sanitation. Complete and maintain Food Safety Daily Checklists.
- Customer Service Management Respond to customer requests and queries professionally. Understand the needs and expectations of the Kosher customer base. Provide knowledgeable assistance regarding products and availability. Maintain high standards of customer service and ensure that customer concerns are addressed appropriately.
- Staff Management Communicate critical information to staff. Set targets and activities, prioritise, delegate and communicate effectively. Coach and develop staff on operational, food safety and Kosher requirements. Address procedural, policy and legislative non‑compliance. Ensure employees understand and consistently follow the required Kosher handling and operational procedures. Attend monthly regional meetings and communicate relevant information to staff.
- Administration & Systems Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in effective working order. Monitor waste and ensure procedures are adhered to. Monitor turnover and identify opportunities to increase sales and improve profitability. Identify barriers to achieving budgets and implement appropriate actions. Ensure SELs are in place and products are correctly labelled. Perform gap scanning and monitor out‑of‑stocks and over‑stocks. Process IDTs and waste through SAP in accordance with SOPs. Monitor electronic communications and action relevant information. Ensure PIDs are counted correctly in accordance with the National P&L schedule.
