Job summary

Halewood South Africa is seeking a maintenance-focused technician to keep factory buildings, facilities and site infrastructure in good order. You will assist with plumbing, carpentry, painting and other crafts, while supporting the engineering team to keep production assets running.

The role involves basic mechanical tasks, checks for food-safety hygiene, and documenting work in CMMS. Training and skill development are encouraged in a structured environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' general maintenance or handyman experience, preferably in a factory.
• Trade certificate or partial qualification (e.g. plumbing, welding, building) is an advantage.
• Strong practical technical ability and reliability; works with little supervision.
• Neat and hygiene-conscious; awareness of food-safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general building and facility maintenance: plumbing, painting, carpentry, tiling, doors, locks, roof and gutter repairs.
• Do basic mechanical tasks: replacing guards, fitting brackets, simple conveyor and trolley repairs, lubrication rounds.
• Help artisans during shutdowns, installations and breakdowns.
• Make sure repairs meet food-safety and hygiene standards (no loose materials, foreign-body control, clean-as-you-go).
• Record work done on job cards / CMMS and report defects found.
• Help build a planned facilities maintenance schedule.
• Support 5S and workshop organisation.
• Develop technical skills with a view to further trade training.
