Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in Johannesburg, SA, to oversee the design and execution of complex civil projects. You will lead structural analysis for bridges and high-rise structures, ensuring safety and compliance while coordinating with architects and contractors.

You will mentor junior engineers, manage timelines and budgets, and stay abreast of the latest design software and codes. A flexible hybrid work setup and local travel are available.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Professional registration with ECSA is essential.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, focused on civil infrastructure.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, or similar.
• Strong understanding of South African building codes and standards (SANS).
• Experience in project management and contract administration within the construction sector.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in leading design teams and mentoring junior engineers.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis for bridges, high-rise buildings, and infrastructure projects.
• Conduct site investigations and assessments to inform design decisions.
• Prepare technical reports, design calculations, specs, and construction drawings.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, contractors, and stakeholders for delivery.
• Review shop drawings and provide technical support during construction.
• Ensure adherence to building codes, standards, and safety regulations.
• Mentor junior engineering staff and promote technical excellence.
• Manage project timelines and budgets related to structural tasks.
• Conduct peer reviews of designs and calculations.
• Stay updated on structural engineering software and methods.
