Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Lead Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s Cape Town team, overseeing cost management from inception to completion and ensuring projects stay on budget and to high standards.

The role requires strong negotiation and contract administration skills, experience with procurement, and the ability to manage complex commercial aspects across the Western Cape region. A university degree in QS or related field is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in quantity surveying within construction.
  • Strong cost management, contract administration and procurement expertise.
  • Proficient in measurement and valuation techniques.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and Bills of Quantities.
  • Manage tender processes, evaluate bids, and negotiate contracts.
  • Monitor and control project costs throughout construction lifecycle.
  • Administer contracts, including payments, claims, dispute resolution.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and contract terms.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Lead Quantity Surveyor to join their esteemed team in Cape Town . This pivotal role requires meticulous financial acumen and a deep understanding of construction costs from inception through to completion. You will be responsible for managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, ensuring they are completed within budget and to the required standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex contractual and commercial aspects of construction projects across the Western Cape region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and Bills of Quantities for diverse construction projects.
  • Manage tender processes, evaluate bids, and negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and control project costs throughout the construction lifecycle, identifying potential risks and variations.
  • Administer construction contracts, including interim and final payments, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for potential projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and contract terms.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Expertise in cost management , contract administration, and procurement.
  • Proficiency in measurement and valuation techniques, utilizing standard methods of measurement.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
