Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Process Safety Engineer based in Bloemfontein to lead process safety across operations. The role blends office collaboration with remote flexibility and focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety culture enhancement.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering with 10+ years in process safety, including 3+ years in a lead role, and strong knowledge of PSM, SIL/SIS, and regulatory standards in Oil & Gas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
• 10+ years of process safety engineering experience
• 3+ years in a lead or senior role
• Knowledge of PSM elements and hazard analysis techniques (HAZOP, LOPA, etc.)
• SIS lifecycle management and safety instrumented systems
• Familiarity with OSHA PSM and IEC 61511
• Strong analytical, leadership and communication skills
• Ability to manage projects and lead cross-functional teams
• Experience in Oil & Gas industry
• Proficiency with safety software and simulation tools

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management programs.
• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, and FMEA.
• Oversee SIL assessments and SIS design.
• Lead incident investigations and RCAs with corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training.
• Manage MOC processes for safety of modifications.
• Conduct safety audits and inspections.
• Stay updated on regulatory requirements in Oil & Gas.
• Advise project teams on safety during design and construction.
