Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mine Ventilation Engineer for our client in Rustenburg, North West. You will design, implement and optimize ventilation systems for deep-level mining, ensuring safe air quality and thermal comfort while managing budgets and contractor oversight.

The ideal candidate holds a BEng in Mechanical or Mining Engineering, 8+ years’ experience, Pr. Eng desirable, and proficiency with Ventsim and Mine 2-4D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mining Engineering with ventilation specialization.
• 8+ years of progressive mine ventilation experience, preferably in deep-level hard rock.
• Proficient in ventilation design software (Ventsim, Mine 2-4D).
• Strong thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer knowledge in mining.
• Regulatory knowledge of SA mining standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain mine ventilation systems for underground operations.
• Conduct airflow surveys and pressure drop calculations to optimize networks.
• Monitor air quality, dust, gases, and temperature to meet health standards.
• Develop ventilation plans for existing and new mine developments.
• Perform thermal analysis and cooling strategy design for deep-level mines.
• Manage ventilation budgets, procurement, and contractor oversight.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regs for ventilation.
• Provide technical training to junior engineers and mine personnel.
