Placements24 seeks a Senior Mining Ventilation Engineer for Klerksdorp, North West. You will design, implement, and manage underground ventilation, dust and gas control, and energy-efficient systems to ensure safe, compliant operations.

The role requires a degree in Mining or Mechanical Engineering with ventilation specialization and 6+ years in underground mining ventilation, with leadership responsibilities and CFD/ventilation software experience.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining or Mechanical Engineering with ventilation specialization.
• ≥6 years underground hard rock mining ventilation experience.
• Experience with Ventsim or Minescape and CFD modeling.
• Strong thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer knowledge in undergrounds.
• Experience in dust and gas control strategies.
• Knowledge of SA mining regulations and environmental standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a technical team.
• Professional registration with ECSA or equivalent is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review mine ventilation plans and strategies.
• Conduct airflow modeling and simulations to optimize performance.
• Design ventilation infrastructure: fans, ducting, seals, HVAC systems.
• Monitor underground environmental conditions: temperature, humidity, dust, gases.
• Implement dust suppression and gas control strategies.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Manage ventilation budget and energy consumption.
• Mentor ventilation officers and technicians.
• Collaborate with planning, engineering, and safety teams.
