Placements24 in Midrand, Gauteng is seeking a Lead Sound Designer to shape the sonic identity for immersive interactive media, including VR, installations, and gaming environments. You will lead a small team and collaborate with developers and UX designers to translate concepts into compelling sound.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Audio Engineering or related field, 7+ years in sound design with 2+ in a lead role, and expertise with DAWs (Pro Tools/Reaper/Cubase) and middleware (Wwise/FMOD),

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Technology, Game Design, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in sound design with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Proficiency in DAWs (Pro Tools, Reaper, Cubase) and audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD).
• Strong understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and audio mixing principles.
• Experience with game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity) and their audio systems.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and implement high-quality sound effects, Foley, and ambient audio for interactive media.
• Lead and mentor junior sound designers, providing artistic direction and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate audio into game engines and development platforms.
• Develop and maintain the audio asset pipeline, ensuring efficient workflow and consistent quality.
• Record, edit, and mix audio assets to exacting standards with clarity, impact and emotional resonance.
• Manage audio budgets and timelines, delivering projects on schedule and within scope.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in audio technology and interactive sound design techniques.
• Conduct sound design reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Create and manage sound libraries and documentation for future reference and use.
