Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Lead Grid Modernization Engineer to drive the modernization of energy infrastructure from a remote location within South Africa. You will define the technical direction for grid projects, lead a distributed team of engineers, and collaborate with regulators to ensure compliant, cutting-edge solutions.

The role requires a Master’s/PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems and at least 10 years in grid modernization.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with power systems specialization.
• Minimum 10 years in power systems engineering with grid modernization focus.
• Proven leadership of complex projects and remote teams.
• Deep knowledge of grid operations, protection, and control strategies.
• Experience with SCADA, EMS, ADMS, DERMS, AMI and related technologies.
• Understanding of distributed energy resources and energy storage.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Familiarity with SA energy regulations is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive grid modernization strategy integrating smart grid tech.
• Architect and oversee design of SCADA, DERMS, and ADMS solutions.
• Lead integration of renewables and storage into grid infrastructure.
• Collaborate with regulators and industry stakeholders for compliance.
• Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers.
• Conduct technical assessments of grid performance for improvements.
• Evaluate new technologies and vendors for projects.
• Prepare technical presentations and reports for management.
