About the Role

Our client, a key player in the regional energy distribution network, is seeking a dynamic Lead Electrical Distribution Engineer to direct their operations from Kimberley, Northern Cape . This senior role is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution network, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply to customers. You will lead a team of distribution engineers, manage capital projects, and ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in distribution network engineering, asset management and project leadership within the utility sector. This is a crucial position influencing the energy infrastructure of the Northern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical engineering team responsible for the planning, design, and operation of the electricity distribution network. Develop and execute capital improvement programs for network upgrades and extensions, including substations and overhead/underground lines. Oversee the technical aspects of network planning studies, load forecasting, and system reliability assessments. Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards applicable to electrical distribution networks in South Africa. Manage the maintenance, repair, and asset management strategies for distribution network assets to optimize performance and lifespan. Coordinate with operations teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies on project execution and network issues. Provide technical expertise and guidance on distribution system design, protection, and operational challenges. Develop and manage departmental budgets and resource allocation. Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and safety.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 9 years of experience in electrical distribution engineering, with a significant portion in a lead or supervisory role. Strong understanding of distribution network design, protection schemes, SCADA systems, and asset management principles. Proven experience managing capital projects related to distribution infrastructure. In-depth knowledge of South African electrical standards (SANS) and utility regulations. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is mandatory. Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills. Proficiency in relevant distribution planning and analysis software is desirable. Ability to work effectively in the specified region and understand its unique challenges.
