Job summary

ECG Engineering in Cape Town is seeking a Lead Control Systems Engineer to join our design team. You will lead control systems design across mining, mineral processing and energy projects, coordinating with specialists to deliver complex studies and detailed design.

• Experience supporting front end greenfield and brownfield development projects with complex controls and automation scopes.
• Control systems design experience involving Rockwell, Emerson, GE or Schneider platforms.
• Distributed Control System experience, ideally Yokogawa.
• PLC experience, ideally Rockwell and Siemens.
• SCADA experience, including Citect or CIMPLICITY.
• Experience leading technical design teams and coordinating with clients.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Lead Control Systems Engineer to join our Cape Town design team.

The successful candidate will contribute to, coordinate and lead control systems design across a range of mineral processing projects and studies. The work will range from detailed design and technical reporting through to complete studies for greenfield developments, brownfield upgrades and remote mining plant operations.

As a Lead, you will work closely with the leadership team to drive technical excellence and innovation within the Control Systems Group while taking responsibility for the successful delivery of your own projects.

• Lead and coordinate control systems design across complex mining, mineral processing and energy projects
• Develop control system philosophies and system architectures for complex industrial plants and assets
• Support projects from planning and design through execution, commissioning and handover
• Produce and review technical reports, studies, specifications and design deliverables
• Provide technical direction and support to engineers and designers
• Lead, motivate and coordinate technical design teams
• Collaborate with clients, project stakeholders and multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Contribute effectively to technical meetings and project decisions
• Coordinate project activities with ECG teams in Toronto, Manila and other global offices when required
• Support clients with control systems, automation software and operational requirements

Key Requirements

• A relevant engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification
• Strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation and control systems principles
• Solid experience developing and designing control system philosophies and systems for complex industrial plants and assets
• Experience working within a specialized electrical and control systems team
• Experience supporting front end greenfield and brownfield development projects with complex controls and automation scopes
• Control systems design experience, ideally involving Rockwell, Emerson, GE or Schneider platforms
• Distributed Control System experience, ideally with Yokogawa
• Programmable Logic Controller experience, ideally with Rockwell and Siemens
• SCADA system experience, including Citect or CIMPLICITY
• Experience managing and motivating technical design teams
• An understanding of the project development process for junior and mid tier mining companies
• Strong technical judgement and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and project teams
• Experience producing and reviewing technical reports and project deliverables

To be considered for the ECG Control Systems Group, you will need solid control systems experience on complex, high value resource or energy projects. You will also understand South African and international mining environments and the realities of remote mining plant construction and operations.
