Job summary

Network2 in Cape Town seeks a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead power system studies and HV design on mining, utilities, and renewable energy projects across Africa. You will guide technical reporting and deliver projects from concept to commissioning, collaborating with industry experts.

The role requires hands-on experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ETAP, travel availability, and strong documentation skills. A relevant engineering degree and professional registration are preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in HV power system design and analysis.
• Experience with powerline and substation design.
• Strong knowledge of power system studies and network performance analysis.
• Experience within mining, industrial, utilities, power generation, or renewable energy environments.
• Exposure to both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Sound understanding of electrical engineering principles, including instrumentation and control systems.
• Proficiency in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ETAP.
• Strong report writing and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently when required.
• Willingness to travel in line with project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Undertake power system analysis and studies for a range of clients.
• Design HV electrical power systems for mining, industrial, and power generation facilities.
• Prepare and evaluate technical tenders and proposals.
• Conduct load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and network performance studies.
• Develop engineering reports and technical documentation.
• Perform power system modelling using DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ETAP.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
• Support projects from feasibility through to commissioning and handover.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Power Systems professional to take a leadership role on major mining, power generation, and renewable energy projects across Africa and internationally.

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will join a highly respected engineering consultancy known for delivering innovative solutions to the mining, utilities, materials handling, renewable energy, and industrial sectors. You will be responsible for leading power system studies, electrical design activities, technical reporting, and project execution across a diverse portfolio of greenfield and brownfield projects. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside industry experts, contribute to complex engineering challenges, and play a key role in delivering projects from concept through to commissioning.

Education:

• BEng/BSc Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Postgraduate Power Systems qualification advantageous
• ECSA registration or eligibility for registration beneficial
