The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior ECI Engineer to join the engineering team and take technical responsibility for Electrical, Control and Instrumentation engineering activities across a variety of projects.
The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual and feasibility studies through to detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and project close-out.
This position is suited to an engineer who is comfortable working in a consulting environment and who can combine strong technical expertise with project delivery, client engagement and multidisciplinary coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (ECI) engineering activities across projects.
- Develop engineering solutions from conceptual and basic engineering through to detailed design.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, specifications, datasheets, drawings and technical documentation.
- Develop and review electrical, control and instrumentation philosophies and design criteria.
- Prepare and review single-line diagrams, cable schedules, load lists, termination diagrams and electrical schematics.
- Develop and review instrumentation specifications, instrument datasheets, I/O lists and instrumentation documentation.
- Participate in the development and review of control system architectures, PLC, SCADA and DCS interfaces.
- Ensure ECI designs comply with applicable codes, standards, client specifications and project requirements.
- Coordinate ECI engineering activities with process, mechanical, civil/structural, piping and other engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical input into equipment specifications, procurement packages and vendor documentation.
- Review supplier and vendor drawings and documentation.
- Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, construction, installation and commissioning.
- Conduct site inspections and technical investigations when required.
- Assist with commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and handover activities.
- Identify design risks, technical constraints and opportunities for optimisation.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering studies and project documentation.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments and multidisciplinary project meetings.
- Engage directly with clients, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed to the required quality, budget and schedule.
- Contribute to proposals, tenders, feasibility studies and project execution strategies when required.
Consulting & Project Delivery
The successful candidate will be expected to operate effectively within a consulting, EPC and EPCM environment, understanding the requirements associated with different project delivery models.

- Industrial infrastructure

Minimum Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
- 4+ years' relevant engineering experience, preferably within an engineering consultancy, EPC or EPCM environment.
- Strong experience in Electrical, Control and Instrumentation engineering.
- Proven experience delivering engineering projects from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
- Strong knowledge of relevant South African and international engineering standards and codes.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering project teams.
- Experience reviewing technical documentation, drawings, calculations and vendor information.
- Strong understanding of engineering design processes and project execution.
- ECSA Professional Registration (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng) would be highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering design and documentation software.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Valid driver's licence.
