Job summary

AMC Consultants, now part of AFRY, is seeking an experienced Senior EC&I Engineer for our Underground Mining team in South Africa. You will design electrical, control and instrumentation systems and deliver high-quality engineering solutions from scoping through feasibility to site implementation.

You will lead projects, mentor engineers, manage client relationships, and contribute to business development while ensuring safety and quality standards across diverse mining projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng, BSc or equivalent).
• 9-15 years of relevant EC&I experience.
• Experience in MV/LV distribution, control, and instrumentation design.
• Experience in brownfield and Greenfield mining projects.
• Knowledge of national/international standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design EC&I systems for underground mining operations (MV/LV).
• Lead projects from concept through feasibility and execution.
• Act as project manager or technical lead when required.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and engineering documentation.
• Develop electrical distribution schematics and layouts.
• Review vendor proposals and technical specifications.
• Support cost estimation, commissioning, and project delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior EC&I Engineer to join our Underground Mining team in South Africa. In this role, you will support the delivery of complex mining projects, primarily focused on underground mining infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing electrical, control, and instrumentation systems and delivering high-quality engineering solutions from scoping through to feasibility and site implementation. You will play a key role in ensuring efficient project delivery, maintaining strong client relationships, and contributing to business development initiatives.

Qualifications And Experience

• A degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng, BSc or equivalent)
• A minimum of 9-15 years of practical experience as relevant to the responsibilities listed above.
• Experience in designing EC&I systems, including medium and low voltage (MV & LV) electrical distribution systems, control systems and instrumentation design, schematics, connection diagrams, and layouts.
• Strong experience in engineering studies (concept to feasibility)
• Experience in both brownfields and Greenfields projects
• Experience in technical specifications and scope development, vendor evaluation and cost estimation, FAT/SAT and commissioning support, project management and delivery
• Knowledge of relevant national and international standards and regulations
• Strong report writing and communication skills
• Proficiency in engineering software (ETAP experience desirable)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage projects
