A leading engineering and technology organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (ECI) Engineer to join its team and contribute to technically challenging projects within the pyrometallurgical and minerals processing industry.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ECI professional with a strong background in process plants, furnaces, electrical systems, instrumentation and industrial automation to take technical ownership of projects from concept and FEED through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, process specialists, project managers, clients and contractors to deliver robust and reliable ECI solutions for complex industrial and pyrometallurgical facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead ECI engineering activities across pyrometallurgical and minerals processing projects.
- Develop and review electrical, control and instrumentation designs from concept through detailed engineering.
- Develop and review control philosophies, functional specifications and automation strategies.
- Design and specify electrical distribution systems, MCCs, control panels, PLC panels and remote I/O systems.
- Develop instrumentation specifications, instrument datasheets, loop diagrams and termination schedules.
- Provide ECI input to P&IDs, equipment specifications and multidisciplinary design reviews.
- Design and integrate PLC, SCADA and DCS control systems.
- Develop and review control system architectures and industrial communication networks.
- Provide ECI engineering solutions for furnaces, feed systems, material handling, off-gas systems, cooling systems, pumping systems and associated process equipment.
- Participate in equipment selection, technical evaluations, procurement and vendor management.
- Review supplier drawings, documentation and technical submissions.
- Participate in FATs, SATs, commissioning and plant start-up activities.
- Provide technical support during construction and installation.
- Conduct site inspections and troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation and control-system issues.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable IEC, SANS, client and industry standards.
- Coordinate ECI interfaces with process, mechanical, civil, structural and project engineering disciplines.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, scopes of work, BOQs and engineering documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Engage directly with clients and provide technical input during project meetings and design reviews.
- Support project planning, cost control, scheduling and execution where required.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical, Electronic, Control or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration would be advantageous.
- 5–8+ years' relevant ECI engineering experience.
- Strong experience within mining, minerals processing, pyrometallurgy, metallurgy, process plants or heavy industrial environments.
- Proven experience delivering engineering projects through the EPC/EPCM project lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution, industrial automation and process instrumentation.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA and/or DCS systems.
- Experience with industrial communication networks and fieldbus systems.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation design, control loops and process measurement.
- Experience with MCCs, VSDs, motors and industrial electrical equipment.
- Proven experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of relevant electrical, instrumentation and safety standards.
- Strong technical report writing and engineering documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
- Willingness to travel to project sites, including potentially international locations.
