Datafin IT Recruitment is seeking a Junior VoIP Engineer in Cape Town to support and maintain a VoIP platform. You will work with Senior Engineers to resolve faults, manage SIP trunks, and keep voice services stable while developing carrier-grade expertise.

Applicants should have a Matric/Grade 12 and a IT/Telecommunications or Networking qualification or hands-on experience, with strong SIP knowledge and networking fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Support and monitor the VoIP platform.
• Configure, test and troubleshoot SIP trunks and call routing.

• Log, track and resolve support tickets, escalating complex faults to Senior Engineers.
• Assist with customer onboarding, number provisioning and configuration changes.
• Keep documentation and ticket records accurate and up to date.

ENVIRONMENT:

A dynamic provider of world-class Cloud Solutions is looking for a Junior VoIP Engineer to help support and maintain its VoIP platform. You will work alongside Senior Engineers, resolving faults, managing SIP trunks and keeping voice services stable for customers, while building your skills in a carrier-grade voice environment. Applicants will need Matric/Grade 12, a Certification/Diploma in IT/Telecommunications or Networking or equivalent hands-on experience. You must also have a solid understanding of SIP and SIP trunking, Networking Fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, NAT, firewalls) and strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to faults.

DUTIES:

• Support and monitor the VoIP platform.
• Configure, test and troubleshoot SIP trunks and call routing.
• Diagnose call quality, registration and connectivity issues.
• Work with network fundamentals such as IP addressing, VLANs, routing and firewalls to isolate voice faults.
• Log, track and resolve support tickets, escalating complex faults to Senior Engineers.
• Assist with customer onboarding, number provisioning and configuration changes.
• Keep documentation and ticket records accurate and up to date.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications –

• Matric/Grade 12.
• Diploma or Certificate in IT, Telecommunications or Networking (or equivalent hands-on experience).

Experience/Skills –

• Solid understanding of SIP and SIP trunking.
• Understanding of Networking Fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, NAT, firewalls).
• Good troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to faults.

Advantageous -

• Entry-level Networking or Telecoms Certification (e.g. CCNA, Network+).
• Exposure to VoIP platforms such as Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio or similar.
• Experience reading packet captures (Wireshark, sngrep).
• Familiarity with Linux.
• Previous experience in a Helpdesk, NOC or Telecoms support role.
