Job summary

CA Select Limited is seeking a PBX Assistant Technician to join the technical team in Johannesburg. You will support IP PBX and VoIP installations, configuration, and maintenance for commercial clients, with a focus on voice/data cabling and network integration.

The role offers exposure to Yeastar and Samsung PBX systems, requiring a strong communication style and a methodical approach to troubleshooting in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Valid South African Driver's Licence (essential).
• 13 years of hands-on experience in PBX, telecoms or voice/data cabling infrastructure.
• Prior Yeastar and Samsung PBX experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, programming and maintenance of IP PBX and VoIP networks.
• Support configuration of SIP Trunks, VoIP, ADSL, Wi‑Fi, 3G/LTE routers and wireless/microwave links.
• Configure voice management features including voicemail, auto-attendant, ring plans and LCR.
• Conduct fault finding and troubleshooting on network infrastructure and cabling.
• Perform pre-installation site surveys and assist with cabling installations.
• Execute basic diagnostic tests and hardware setups on customer premises.
• Assist with complete client handovers after installations.
• Manage and maintain boot stock and tools; keep stakeholders updated.
• Communicate with Service Coordinator on job statuses and schedules.
• Complete required job cards and administrative paperwork accurately.
• Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and standard procedures.

About the Role

Our client, a leading provider in the ICT and telecommunications sector, is seeking a motivated PBX Assistant Technician to join their technical team. In this role, you will support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of advanced voice and data systems to ensure seamless connectivity for commercial clients. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior technical professional to grow their expertise in VoIP, networking, and PBX infrastructure within a dynamic field environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the installation, programming, and maintenance of IP PBX and VoIP networks. Support the configuration of SIP Trunks, VoIP, ADSL, Wi-Fi, 3G/LTE routers, and wireless/microwave connectivity. Help configure voice management features including voicemail, auto-attendant, ring plans, and Least Cost Routing (LCR). Conduct fault finding and troubleshooting on network infrastructure, voice/data integration, and physical cabling. Perform pre-installation site surveys and assist with voice and data cabling installations. Execute basic diagnostic tests and hardware setups on customer premises. Assist with complete client handovers upon finishing system installations. Manage and maintain all allocated boot stock and tools. Maintain accurate communication with the Service Coordinator regarding job statuses and schedules. Complete all required job cards and administrative paperwork accurately and on time. Adhere strictly to Health & Safety (H&S) regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.

Requirements

Minimum Grade 12 / Matric qualification. Valid South African Drivers License (essential). 13 years of hands-on experience in PBX, telecommunications, or voice/data cabling infrastructure. Prior experience with Yeastar and Samsung PBX systems is highly preferred. Basic understanding of networking, SIP, VoIP, network hardware, and structural cabling. Previous experience in the Office Automation or ICT industry is desirable. Strong verbal communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration. A methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
