AES Global in Johannesburg is seeking an IT Operations Manager to own the infrastructure, hardware and support estate that keeps its consulting teams working locally and internationally.

This hands-on leadership role requires you to lead 8–12 IT support consultants, own infrastructure and policy, and stay close enough to fix issues when needed. Hybrid working is offered with three days in the office.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree.
• At least 15 years’ experience in IT operations, infrastructure or technical support, with leadership experience.
• Background in support infrastructure—hardware and desktop support.
• Extensive experience supporting a Microsoft environment.
• Proven experience managing a team of around 8–12 technical support people.

A technology consulting business is hiring an IT Operations Manager to own the infrastructure, hardware and support estate that keeps its consulting teams working — locally and across the international sites it operates from.

This is a hands-on leadership job rather than a purely strategic one. You will lead a team of IT support consultants, own the infrastructure, security and policy behind them, and stay close enough to the technology to pick up a problem yourself when it needs you.

What you’ll do

• Lead a team of 8–12 IT support consultants — managing, coaching and mentoring them, with full 360 management responsibility
• Own infrastructure, hardware, security and policy management across the estate
• Keep a substantial Microsoft environment healthy, supported and well run
• Manage infrastructure, hardware, software and user support across international sites, coordinating remote support for teams that are not in the same building as you
• Take responsibility for building maintenance and management, including renovations and repairs
• Stay hands-on — when something needs fixing rather than delegating, you get into it

What you’ll need

• A relevant degree
• At least 15 years’ experience in IT operations, infrastructure or technical support, with a substantial part of that spent leading and managing people
• A background rooted in support infrastructure — hardware and desktop support — that you have built on since
• Extensive experience supporting a Microsoft environment
• Proven experience managing a team of around 8–12 technical support people

Nice to have

• Experience running infrastructure and user support across more than one country
• Experience coordinating remote support for distributed teams
• Exposure to facilities and building management alongside a technology estate
