Job Title: IT Engineer
Location: Western Cape — Piketberg
Job Purpose
The IT Engineer provides day-to-day desktop, network, and basic server support, split between remote support for most of the year and an onsite rotation at our Piketberg site during harvest season. The role suits a hands‑on, who can work reliably in a support driven, standby‑ready environment while delivering consistent service across remote and onsite periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Remote and Desktop Support:
- Provide remote technical support to end users, mainly via Microsoft 365 tools
- Install, update, and maintain Windows desktops and laptops (Windows 10/11)
- Monitor client systems and devices using RMM
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineers where required
- Network amp; Server Basics
- Support and perform basic server tasks — Wi‑Fi, routers, switches, cabling, and VPN connectivity
- Restart, check backups ran, monitoring disk space, and simple troubleshooting
- Onsite Support ( Piketberg – Harvest Season):
- Travel to Piketberg for a 3-month onsite rotation each year during harvest season, when on‑the ground support is busiest
- Install and repair physical equipment, run or repair network cabling, and set up workstations onsite
- Provide face‑to‑face support to the local team during the rotation
- Incident amp; Request Management:
- Log, track, and resolve support tickets through the service desk system
- Ensure accurate documentation of troubleshooting steps and resolutions.
- Maintain communication with clients regarding ticket progress.
- Be available for standby duty outside normal hours when required
- Client Environment Administration:
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access requests (Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID).
- Assist with device configuration and deployments.
- Support backup monitoring and basic recovery tasks
- Documentation amp; Security:
- Keep client documentation, system diagrams, and password records accurate and up to date.
- Follow basic cybersecurity practices — secure password handling, applying updates/patches, and spotting phishing or suspicious activity.
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric (Grade 12)
- IT Diploma / Certificate or equivalent technical qualification.
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in a technical support or managed services environment.
- Exposure to cloud services (Microsoft 365 / Azure).
- Experience supporting rural, farming, or agricultural-sector clients
- Previous experience in a managed service provider (MSP) environment.
- Experience supporting multiple client environments
Technical Skills
- Networking (LAN/WAN, Wi‑Fi, VPN, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS basics)
- Microsoft Environments (Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365)
- Windows Server basics (restarts, backups, health checks)
