Job summary

Placements24 in Soweto, Gauteng, is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to optimise operations flow on the shop floor. The role focuses on analyzing, designing, and improving movement of materials, people, and information to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance efficiency.

You will design layouts, conduct time and motion studies, develop SOPs, and collaborate with shop-floor teams to implement changes. A strong Lean background and CAD skills are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial engineering focusing on operations, workflow, and process improvement.
• Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and tools.
• Proficiency in process mapping, time studies, and layout design.
• Experience with CAD software for layout design is an advantage.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with shop-floor personnel.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be based in or willing to commute to Soweto, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing production workflows and material handling systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Design and implement optimized process flows, workstation layouts, and material management strategies.
• Utilize time and motion studies to improve efficiency and reduce waste in operational tasks.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, including flowcharts, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
• Collaborate with production supervisors and line workers to implement process changes and gather feedback.
• Identify and address ergonomic issues to improve worker safety and comfort.
• Assist in the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles to streamline operations.
• Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operational flow and efficiency.
• Support new product introduction by designing efficient manufacturing processes.
