Placements24 in Vereeniging, Gauteng seeks a Process Safety Engineer to lead development and management of process safety systems across chemical processes. You will conduct PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA), ensure regulatory compliance, and drive risk-reduction initiatives in a hybrid on-site/remote environment.

The role requires at least a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and a minimum of five years in process safety within the chemical sector, plus strong analytical, training, and incident-investigation

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical industry.
• Deep knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and standards (OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
• Proven experience conducting PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA).
• Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and LOPA.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction hazards, flammability and toxicity.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and training delivery capabilities.

Responsabilidades

• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Ensure compliance with national and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses; identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to employees at all levels.
• Manage pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs) for new or modified processes and equipment.
• Oversee mechanical integrity of critical process equipment and safety systems.
• Lead safety audits and inspections on-site and remotely.
• Promote a strong safety culture across the organization.
