Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer for our client in George, Western Cape. The hybrid role focuses on developing and implementing short-term and long-term mine plans to maximise safety, recovery and production.

You will collaborate with site management, geologists and operations, integrating geological, geotechnical and survey data using Deswik, Vulcan or Surpac. Travel to mine sites may be required and flexible workdays are included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years in mine planning and design.
• Experience with open-pit or underground operations.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac or similar software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to mine sites and work hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain short-term and long-term mine plans using specialised software.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects.
• Optimize design, scheduling, and resource allocation to maximise recovery and reduce costs.
• Collaborate with operations teams to implement plans.
• Monitor performance vs plan and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports and forecasts.
• Ensure compliance with mining laws, safety, and environmental standards.
• Perform site visits and oversee plan implementation.
• Integrate geological, geotechnical, and survey data into planning.
• Drive continuous improvement in the mine planning department.
