Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer for a hybrid role based in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will develop and optimize short- and long-term mine plans, design pit layouts, and optimize resource utilization while ensuring safety and efficiency.

The position requires 6+ years of experience, strong proficiency in MineSight, Vulcan, or Surpac, and the ability to work both remotely and on-site. Travel to the mine site is anticipated as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in mine planning.
• Proficiency in MineSight, Vulcan, Surpac or similar.
• Strong understanding of mine design principles, drilling, blasting, and material handling.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning skills.
• Ability to work independently on remote tasks and collaborate on-site when required.
• Willing to travel to the mine site for part of the workweek.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update detailed short-term and long-term mine plans considering geological data, constraints, and economics.
• Create mine designs including pit limits, access routes, and production sequencing using planning software.
• Perform resource estimation and grade control analysis to support planning.
• Calculate mineable reserves and optimize extraction strategies for maximum value.
• Collaborate with operations to ensure seamless implementation and provide on-site support.
• Monitor performance against plans and adjust as needed.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and presentations for management.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mine planning software and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in planning.
• Participate in mine reviews and technical committees.
