Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative Energy Storage Systems Engineer to contribute to Randburg-based grid-scale and distributed BESS projects. You will design, integrate, and optimize battery energy storage systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance grid stability and renewables integration.

The role blends site work and remote technical analysis in a hybrid setting, with opportunities to push the boundaries of energy storage technology in the Gauteng region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on power systems or energy storage.
• 3–5 years of experience in design, integration, or operation of battery energy storage systems.
• Knowledge of battery chemistries, interconnection standards, and grid codes.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and control system development.
• Strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
• Project management experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer BESS configurations, including battery selection, power conversion, and control systems.
• Develop control algorithms and software for BESS operation (grid-tie, islanding, and load-following).
• Perform system integration, testing, and commissioning of energy storage projects.
• Analyze system performance data to identify optimization opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and software developers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stay current with advancements in battery technology, power electronics, and energy management systems.
