Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join their hybrid team in South Africa. You will optimize the software development lifecycle with a focus on automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code. You will bridge development and operations to enable rapid, reliable deployments.

The role requires hands-on experience with cloud platforms, containers, and monitoring tools, plus strong scripting, Linux administration, and collaboration skills for a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD principles and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Solid understanding of Linux/Unix administration.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities, essential for a hybrid work model.
• Relevant certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated software deployment and testing.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible, or Chef.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues across development, staging, and production environments.
• Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance and scalability.
• Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP) ensuring high availability and security.
• Implement and maintain containerization solutions using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Develop monitoring and alerting strategies to proactively identify and resolve system issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest DevOps trends and technologies, recommending improvements.
