Placements24 is seeking a Community Mobilization Officer for a client in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on engaging local communities, enabling participation in development initiatives, and empowering residents to become active change agents.

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field and at least 3 years’ experience in community development. Strong facilitation and communication skills are essential to build trust with diverse groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Sociology or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in community development, social work or mobilization.
• Proven ability to engage diverse community groups and stakeholders.
• Excellent facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of community dynamics and development principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement community mobilization strategies and action plans.
• Engage with community members, leaders and local organizations to build trust.
• Facilitate community meetings, workshops and participatory planning sessions.
• Identify community needs, priorities and assets.
• Empower community members to participate in development programs and decision-making.
• Support formation and strengthening of community-based groups and committees.
• Raise awareness about programs and services within the community.
• Collect and report on community feedback and project progress.
• Liaise with program managers to ensure needs are integrated into project design.
• Promote social cohesion and advocate for community interests.
