Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, SA seeks an Automation and Robotics Engineer to design, implement, and optimize automated systems and robotic solutions for manufacturing efficiency. The role blends on-site development with remote design and analysis work.

You will work with FANUC, KUKA, and ABB robots, PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and sensor integration, contributing to safety and production improvements in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in automation engineering and industrial robotics.
• Proficiency in programming industrial robots from major manufacturers.
• Strong understanding of PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and HMI development.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus).
• Knowledge of machine vision systems and sensor integration.
• Familiarity with CAD software for automation design.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and project management abilities.
• Ability to adapt to a hybrid work environment and travel occasionally within South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and implement robotic systems (FANUC, KUKA, ABB) for manufacturing processes.
• Develop and integrate automated machinery, including PLCs, HMI, and sensor systems.
• Create and optimize robotic work cells and automated production lines.
• Perform system testing, commissioning, and validation to ensure optimal performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and robotics-related issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers and production staff.
• Develop technical documentation including control narratives and P&IDs.
• Stay updated with advancements in robotics, automation, and control technologies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to boost efficiency.
• Ensure automation systems comply with safety standards and regulations.
