Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a visionary Lead Automotive Software Engineer to spearhead embedded systems development in Tembisa, Gauteng. You will drive in‑vehicle infotainment, ADAS, and ECU projects, leading a cross‑functional team of software engineers and collaborating with hardware, system architects, and QA to deliver robust automotive software.

The role requires a track record in leading teams, architecture expertise, and deep knowledge of C/C++, RTOS, AUTOSAR, ISO 26262 and MISRA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years in embedded software with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role within the automotive industry.
• Extensive experience with C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux.
• In-depth knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet).
• Experience with AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, and MISRA C/C++.
• Familiarity with software development tools, including compilers, debuggers, and version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a cross-functional team in Tembisa, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of automotive software engineers, fostering innovation and high performance.
• Architect, design, and implement embedded software for infotainment, ADAS, and powertrain control.
• Define software requirements, specifications, and technical designs with stakeholders.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle from concept to testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Develop software using C/C++ for embedded platforms.
• Ensure software compliance with AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, and MISRA guidelines.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to integrate software and hardware components.
• Conduct code reviews, performance analysis, and debugging for quality and reliability.
• Stay updated on emerging automotive technologies and best practices in embedded systems.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
