Job summary

peopleworth is hiring a Property Maintenance Invigilator to support a portfolio of commercial properties in the Western Cape. You will inspect properties, perform minor repairs, coordinate contractors, and manage maintenance records with independent work across sites.

The role requires practical maintenance experience, knowledge of plumbing/electrical basics, and a valid driver’s licence for travel between properties. A maintenance qualification is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated practical experience in property or facilities maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of building materials, fixings, and basic repair methods.
• Familiar with basic plumbing and simple drainage repairs; able to identify leaks.
• Understanding of roof maintenance and waterproofing, and when to escalate.
• Ability to spot electrical/lighting issues and refer to a qualified professional.
• Experience coordinating contractors and evaluating quotes.
• Organised, able to manage multiple properties independently.
• Valid driver’s licence and access to transport for travel between sites.
• Practical qualification preferred; hands-on capability is valued.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs.
• Assess issues, determine action, and prioritise by urgency.
• Carry out minor repairs to doors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, and fittings.
• Address basic plumbing issues and leaks where safe to do so.
• Identify roof leaks and coordination for specialist repairs where needed.
• Identify electrical/lighting concerns and refer to professionals.
• Select appropriate tools and materials for tasks.
• Request/assess quotes, compare costs, and seek approvals for larger works.
• Coordinate contractors, manage access, and verify work completion.
• Maintain records with notes, photos, and quotations.
• Clarify landlord/tenant maintenance responsibilities before costs.
• Arrange property viewings for prospective tenants and support handovers.
• Monitor service intervals for vehicles and equipment; report issues.
