We are looking to hire a Group Manager: Reporting in our Group Finance department team. This role is based at our office in Illovo, Johannesburg.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Job Purpose: The Group Manager: Reporting is responsible for leading the Group's financial reporting function, ensuring the timely, accurate and compliant preparation of all statutory financial financial reports. The role also provides strategic oversight of, and direct accountability for, monthly, quarterly and technical accounting, annual financial reporting, group consolidations, external audits, and finance operations at the Group’s head office. While Finance Directors, Commercial Directors and Finance Managers across the Globe may take direct accountability for some reporting within their sphere, it is the accountability of the Group Manager | Reporting to co-ordinate this reporting and, in respect of some local entities, to take more direct accountability for the accuracy and timeousness thereof.
The incumbent ensures compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Companies Act, and other applicable regulatory requirements across the Group's local and international operations. The role drives continuous improvement in financial reporting, governance, financial controls and reporting processes.
This position is primarily focused on financial reporting, ensuring that the financial results accurately reflect the Group's financial performance and position.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the end-to-end monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes across the Group.
- Establish reporting timetables and monitor adherence to reporting deadlines.
- Review and approve financial submissions from local and international operations.
- Ensure consistency in accounting treatment and financial reporting across all business units.
- Review all Group financial statements before submission to the CFO, where appropriate, in collaboration with the relevant Finance Directors and Commercial Directors.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Ensure the integrity and completeness of the general ledger before financial close.
- Drive improvements to the financial close process to reduce reporting timelines while maintaining accuracy.
- Review significant journals, adjustments and accounting estimates.
- Ensure reporting packages are complete, accurate and fully supported.
- Present financial reporting outcomes and key accounting matters to Executive Management where required.
- Monitor reporting quality and implement corrective actions where deficiencies are identified.
- Ensure compliance with Group reporting policies and reporting calendars.
Group Consolidations
- Direct the monthly, quarterly and annual consolidation process.
- Review consolidation journals and elimination entries.
- Ensure intercompany transactions and balances are appropriately reconciled and eliminated.
- Review foreign currency translation adjustments.
- Oversee accounting for acquisitions, disposals, mergers and restructures.
- Review minority interest calculations.
- Ensure accurate equity accounting for investments in associates and joint ventures.
- Review consolidation working papers and supporting documentation.
- Ensure consistency in reporting structures across all entities.
- Resolve complex consolidation issues arising from cross-border operations.
- Coordinate reporting submissions from international finance teams.
- Ensure the integrity of consolidation systems and reporting tools.
- Continuously improve consolidation processes through automation and standardisation.
Technical Accounting Leadership
- Monitor new and amended IFRS standards.
- Assess the impact of new accounting standards on the Group.
- Develop implementation plans for new accounting requirements.
- Review accounting treatment for significant or unusual transactions.
Finance Operations Governance
- Ensure balance sheet integrity.
- Review reconciliations of all significant accounts.
- Ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Review month-end journal controls.
- Ensure compliance with delegated authority levels.
- Review fixed asset accounting.
- Oversee capital expenditure accounting.
- Monitor inventory accounting.
- Ensure accurate intercompany accounting.
- Oversee cashbook accounting controls.
- Drive continuous process improvement within Finance Operations.
- Standardise accounting processes across the Group.
Audit Management
- Develop the annual audit plan.
- Coordinate audit activities across all Group entities.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 10–15 years' progressive finance experience with at least 5–8 years in senior financial reporting leadership.
- Extensive listed or large multinational company reporting experience.
- Extensive IFRS technical accounting experience.
- Experience managing group consolidations across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions.
- Experience implementing financial reporting systems and process improvements.
- Mining, resources, manufacturing or heavy industry experience will be advantageous.
- Experience in reporting on sales and logistics and strategic investments will be advantageous.
