Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Foundational Phase Teacher for Grade R at a Soweto primary school. The role focuses on play-based learning to build early literacy and numeracy, social and emotional development, and a joyful classroom.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, be registered to teach, have at least two years of Grade R experience, and collaborate with a team to support every child's growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• Valid teaching qualification and registration with relevant educational authorities.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching Grade R or in a similar early childhood setting.
• Thorough knowledge of the South African National Curriculum Framework (NQF) for the Foundation Phase.
• Proficiency in play-based learning methodologies and early literacy/numeracy strategies.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning atmosphere.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with young children.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated teaching team.
• First Aid certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for Grade R students, focusing on play-based learning.
• Create a safe, stimulating, and engaging classroom environment that promotes exploration and discovery.
• Assess student progress through observation, portfolio development, and informal/formal assessments.
• Develop individual learning goals for each child and track their progress throughout the year.
• Foster social-emotional development, encouraging positive peer interactions and self-regulation.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child's development and progress.
• Collaborate with other Foundational Phase teachers and school staff to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
• Maintain classroom management strategies that are positive and age-appropriate.
• Prepare and organize teaching materials and resources.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
