Placements24 is seeking an experienced Golf Course Superintendent to oversee maintenance and aesthetic development of a prestigious golf facility in Midrand. You will lead a team of groundskeepers, horticulturalists, and mechanics, directing turfgrass management, conditioning, and sustainability to provide an exceptional playing experience.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting, IPM, irrigation, and regulatory compliance knowledge, with a focus on water conservation and high standards

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent at a golf facility.
• Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agronomy, Turfgrass Management or related field.
• Proven experience in turfgrass science, irrigation management, and pest/disease control.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Budgeting, financial management, and operational planning experience.
• Knowledge of South African flora and environmental conditions is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an annual agronomic plan for greens, tees, fairways and roughs.
• Supervise, train, and schedule a team of grounds maintenance staff.
• Manage the budget for course maintenance, including labor, equipment, supplies, and capex.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of all groundskeeping equipment.
• Implement and monitor IPM programs, irrigation systems, and fertilization schedules.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and implement sustainable practices.

About the Role

This pivotal role involves managing all aspects of turfgrass management, course conditioning, and groundskeeping operations to ensure an exceptional playing experience for members and guests. You will lead a team of skilled groundskeepers, horticulturalists, and mechanics, fostering a culture of precision, efficiency, and sustainability. This is a hands-on position for a passionate individual committed to maintaining the highest standards in golf course agronomy and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an annual agronomic plan for all turf areas, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs, focusing on optimal health and playability.
• Supervise, train, and schedule a team of grounds maintenance staff, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality execution of tasks.
• Manage the budget for course maintenance, including labor, equipment, supplies, and capital expenditures, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of all groundskeeping equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Implement and monitor integrated pest management (IPM) programs, irrigation systems, and fertilization schedules.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and implement sustainable practices for water conservation and chemical application.

Requirements
