Scatec in Cape Town, South Africa, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support senior engineering teams on renewable energy projects, focusing on mechanical substructures. Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
• At least four years’ relevant engineering experience, including three years in structural analysis and three years in a project environment.
• Experience in AutoCAD, mechanical testing processes, and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) project design and execution.
• Sound engineering design capability, particularly for PV and BESS technologies, with the ability to analyse and simulate energy production from systems using multiple technologies.
• Knowledge of energy generation contracts, technical schedules, utility interfaces and stakeholders, supported by strong analytical, reporting, communication and cross-functional teamwork skills.
• Fluent written and spoken English. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element modelling (FEM), wider solar and wind renewable energy experience, and Spanish, German or French language skills are advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Assess suitable substructure solutions for greenfield sites and contribute to energy yield assessments.
• Calculate project-specific tracker energy losses and gains and develop tools to improve assessments.
• Develop mechanical base cases and specifications and evaluate technologies for project decisions.
• Support Supply Chain with RFQs, supplier evaluations and technical contract schedules.
• Coordinate and review mechanical system designs ensuring project-structured requirements are met.
• Engage with lenders’ advisers, suppliers, contractors and project teams to resolve technical matters and support close and execution planning.
• Review design changes, assess construction quality documentation, conduct site visits and support testing, commissioning and handover.
• Follow Scatec’s operating system and improve mechanical engineering processes and tools.
