Placements24 is seeking a Mine Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Rustenburg, SA. The role combines on-site ground analysis with remote data interpretation to support underground and open-pit operations in the North West.

You will design support systems, develop monitoring programs, assess seismic hazards, and provide geotechnical input to mine planning. The position offers a hybrid work model, competitive compensation, and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
• 6+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining sector.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, Maptek Vulcan).
• Solid understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and engineering geology principles.
• Experience with ground monitoring instrumentation and data interpretation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team, commuting as needed to the Rustenburg site.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and stability analyses for mine excavations and infrastructure.
• Design, implement, and monitor ground support systems for underground mines and open pits.
• Develop and execute geotechnical monitoring programs using instrumentation and data logging.
• Assess seismic hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
• Provide geotechnical advice and support to mine planning and production teams.
• Investigate and report on geotechnical incidents and failures.
