Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Welkom, Free State, to assess ground conditions for mining and construction. You will lead site investigations, coordinate laboratory testing, analyze data, and develop design recommendations to ensure stability of foundations and slopes.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Geotechnical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience and proficiency in PLAXIS and GeoStudio.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of relevant geotechnical experience.
Proficiency with PLAXIS and GeoStudio or similar software.
Mining-related geotechnical challenges experience is advantageous.
Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
Valid driver's license and willingness to conduct fieldwork.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
Analyze geotechnical data from investigations and laboratory testing.
Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and provide design recommendations for foundations, slopes, and earthworks.
Assess geological hazards and develop mitigation strategies for mining and construction projects.
Liaise with clients, project managers, and construction teams to provide technical support and advice.
Ensure all work complies with relevant engineering standards, codes of practice, and safety regulations.
