Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geoscientist in Cape Town to drive geological and geophysical analysis for renewable energy projects. You will lead subsurface investigations, interpret data to shape foundation design and site layout, and guide a team of geoscientists toward safe, efficient project execution.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Geology/Geophysics and 8+ years of experience in infrastructure site assessment, with strong GIS and geophysical processing skills.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geology or Geophysics.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in geoscience, with a focus on site assessment for infrastructure projects.
• Experience in renewable energy site selection and risk assessment is desirable.
• Proficiency in geophysical data acquisition and processing techniques (seismic, GPR, magnetics).

Responsibilities

• Conduct geological and geophysical site assessments for renewable energy infrastructure.
• Develop and manage subsurface investigation programs (seismic surveys, boreholes, geotechnical testing).
• Analyze data to identify risks like seismic activity, soil instability, groundwater issues.
• Interpret geophysical data to inform foundation design and site layout.
• Lead and mentor a team of geoscientists and technicians.
• Collaborate with external consultants and regulatory bodies for project compliance.
