Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a meticulous Geological Technician to support exploration near Cape Town. You will assist in field data collection, sample processing, and initial analysis under senior geologists, contributing to mineral resource discovery.

This role blends fieldwork with laboratory duties, offering hands-on experience in the exploration lifecycle and exposure to modern geological technologies and data management practices.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of geological fieldwork or laboratory experience.
• Bachelor's or Diploma in Geology or Earth Science is required.
• Proficiency with geological tools and equipment (GPS, sampling tools).

Responsibilities

• Assist in geological mapping and data acquisition in the field, including rock chip sampling and core logging.
• Prepare and process geological samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
• Conduct basic field tests and measurements (e.g., specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility).
• Maintain accurate field notes, databases, and sample inventories.
• Operate and maintain field equipment with proper calibration.
