Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• 1-3 years of experience as Geological Technician or Assistant Geologist.
• Proficiency in core logging and sample handling procedures.
• Knowledge of geological concepts, rock identification and structural measurements.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent and organized Geological Technician to support their exploration and geological operations in the Mossel Bay area. You will play a vital role in the collection, logging, and initial processing of geological samples, core logging, and maintaining geological databases. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a field and laboratory team. You will contribute to the foundational data collection that drives successful mineral exploration and resource evaluation projects, working on-site to ensure the accuracy and integrity of geological information gathered.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist geologists in field mapping, sampling, and geological data collection.
• Log drill core and samples, accurately recording lithological, structural, and mineralization details.
• Prepare and label geological samples for analysis by external laboratories.
• Maintain geological databases and ensure the accuracy and organization of sample records and field data.
• Operate and maintain geological field equipment and basic laboratory instruments.
• Assist with the preparation of geological maps and cross-sections under the guidance of a geologist.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Certificate in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• 1-3 years of experience as a Geological Technician or Assistant Geologist, preferably in exploration.
• Proficiency in core logging and sample handling procedures.
• Basic understanding of geological concepts, rock identification, and structural measurements.
• Experience with geological software for data entry and basic mapping is advantageous.
• Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
