Job summary

SANParks is seeking a General Worker at the Matyholweni section of AENP. The successful candidate will report to the Duty Manager and contribute to maintaining facilities for visitors and tourism activities.

The role requires basic Matric, 1–2 years’ relevant experience, good communication and customer-service skills, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Weekend and shift work may be required in a hospitality setting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in general worker/tourism/hospitality.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Interpersonal and customer-service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in tourism facilities (public areas, ablution facilities, offices, campsites, accommodation).
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of chalets, huts, kitchens and guest facilities.
  • Collect and dispose of refuse and ensure waste areas are clean.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance and path upkeep.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks and report faults.
  • Help load, unload and transport equipment and supplies.
  • Set up facilities for visitors and tourism activities.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are clean, safe and secure.
  • Report damages or safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Provide professional assistance to visitors and assist during peak periods.

Job description

A vacancy currently exists for a General Worker in AENP – Matyholweni Section. The successful candidate will report to the Duty Manager.

  • Grade 12 (Matric) NCV Level 4 certificate or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years’ practical work experience in a general worker, tourism, or hospitality environment.
  • Chainsaw and brush cutter experience, desirable
  • Communication skills both written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of First Aid will be an added advantage
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies and health and safety (OHS) procedures.
  • Good time-management and organizational skills.
  • Basic knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, public holidays, and varying shifts as required by the hospitality industry.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in tourism facilities, including public areas, ablution facilities, offices, campsites, and accommodation areas.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining chalets, huts, kitchens, and other guest facilities.
  • Collect and dispose of refuse and ensure that waste areas are kept clean.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, including sweeping, clearing vegetation, removing litter, and maintaining pathways.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as painting, minor repairs, and reporting faults to the relevant department.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting equipment, supplies, linen and other operational materials.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining facilities for visitors and tourism activities.
  • Ensure that equipment, tools, and work areas are kept clean, safe and secure.
  • Report damaged infrastructure, equipment, safety hazards or maintenance problems to the supervisor.
  • Assist tourism staff with operational duties during busy periods.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of facilities before and after guest arrivals and departures.
  • Assist with stock handling and movement of supplies where required.
  • Follow occupational health and safety, environmental and organizational procedures.
  • Provide professional and courteous assistance to visitors when required.
  • Assist with emergency situations and follow the instructions of supervisors and management.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties related to the efficient operation of the tourism facility.
  • Execute ad hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, aligned with a Paterson A3 job grade.

The successful candidate will have to provide their own accommodation, as there is no official accommodation in the park.
