Job summary

SANParks seeks a General Worker: Rest Camp in Augrabies Falls National Park to support housekeeping, maintenance and guest services. You will contribute to clean facilities, assist with chalets and public areas, and help with routine repairs and safety tasks in a busy hospitality environment.

The role requires Matric/NCV L4, 1–2 years relevant experience, strong communication, teamwork and a service mindset. Shifts include weekends/public holidays; remuneration aligns with SANParks pay scales.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric) NCV Level 4 certificate or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years practical work experience in a general worker tourism/hospitality environment.
  • Communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Good interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of First Aid will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies and health and safety (OHS) procedures.
  • Good time-management and organisational skills.
  • Basic knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, public holidays, and varying shifts as required by the hospitality industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in tourism facilities, including public areas, ablution facilities, offices, campsites, and accommodation areas.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining chalets, huts, kitchens, and other guest facilities.
  • Collect and dispose of refuse and ensure that waste areas are kept clean.
  • Assist with ground maintenance, including sweeping, clearing vegetation, removing litter, and maintaining pathways.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as painting, minor repairs, and reporting faults to the relevant department.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting equipment, supplies, linen and other operational materials.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining facilities for visitors and tourism activities.
  • Ensure that equipment, tools, and work areas are kept clean, safe and secure.
  • Report damaged infrastructure, equipment, safety hazards or maintenance problems to the supervisor.
  • Assist tourism staff with operational duties during busy periods.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of facilities before and after guest arrivals and departures.
  • Assist with stock handling and movement of supplies where required.
  • Follow occupational health and safety, environmental and organizational procedures.
  • Provide professional and courteous assistance to visitors when required.
  • Assist with emergency situations and follow the instructions of supervisors and management.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties related to the efficient operation of the tourism facility.
  • Execution of ad-hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Removal of refuse, Transport of linen.
  • Relieve duties at filling station.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson A3 job grade, and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service of SANParks.
