Placements24 is seeking an experienced and strategic Fleet Manager to oversee a large vehicle fleet in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will lead fleet operations, drive cost efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance while aligning with long-term fleet strategy.

The role requires 5–7 years of fleet management experience, a relevant degree, and proven leadership. You will manage budgets, negotiate with suppliers, and mentor a professional team in a hybrid work setting at our transport & logistics

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, business admin, or related field.
• 5–7 years of progressive fleet management experience.
• Experience managing large, diverse vehicle fleets.
• Strong financial acumen and budget management experience.
• Proficiency with fleet software and telematics.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement fleet management strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Oversee daily fleet operations: scheduling, routing, and dispatch.
• Manage vehicle maintenance programs to ensure safety and uptime.
• Ensure compliance with road transport regulations, licensing and permits.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent transport and logistics company, is seeking an experienced and strategic Fleet Manager to oversee their extensive vehicle fleet operations in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga . This critical role involves managing the acquisition, maintenance, compliance, and utilization of all vehicles within the fleet to ensure optimal efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of fleet management best practices, regulatory requirements, and a proven ability to lead a team and manage budgets. This hybrid role requires a strategic thinker who can balance operational demands with long-term fleet planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive fleet management strategies to ensure operational efficiency and cost containment.
• Oversee the daily operations of the fleet, including vehicle scheduling, routing, and dispatch.
• Manage vehicle maintenance programs, ensuring all vehicles are regularly serviced and repaired to meet safety and operational standards.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant road transport regulations, licensing, and permits.
• Manage the acquisition and disposal of fleet vehicles, negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
• Develop and manage the fleet budget, controlling costs related to fuel, maintenance, insurance, and driver expenses.
• Implement and monitor driver performance, safety records, and adherence to company policies.
• Utilize fleet management software and telematics to track vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and driver behavior.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, taking appropriate corrective actions and implementing preventative measures.
• Lead and mentor the fleet management team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in fleet management.
• Proven experience in managing large and diverse vehicle fleets.
• In-depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair, and compliance regulations.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management and cost control.
• Proficiency in fleet management software and telematics systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
• Valid driver's license is required.
