Placements24 is seeking a Fleet Management Director for our client, a national logistics provider, based in Centurion, Gauteng. You will lead the fleet strategy, drive operational efficiency, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and financial performance across a diverse vehicle portfolio.

The role combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership, including mentoring managers, managing budgets, and implementing telematics and maintenance programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation management, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years in fleet management; at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Extensive knowledge of fleet operations, safety regulations, and financial management.
• Proven experience managing large and diverse vehicle fleets.
• Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
• Excellent leadership and negotiation abilities.
• Proficiency with fleet management software and related tech.
• Valid driver’s license and eligibility to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans for fleet acquisition, deployment, maintenance, and disposal to optimize operational efficiency and minimize costs.
• Oversee daily fleet operations, ensure compliance with traffic laws, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Mentor a team of fleet managers, supervisors, and staff; foster safety and continuous improvement.
• Implement preventive maintenance programs to maximize uptime and reduce repair costs.
• Negotiate contracts with manufacturers, service providers, fuel suppliers, and insurers.
• Develop and monitor KPIs for fleet utilization, fuel efficiency, safety incidents, maintenance costs, and driver performance.
• Implement technology solutions (telematics, GPS) to enhance fleet visibility, efficiency, and safety.
• Ensure robust safety programs and training for drivers and fleet personnel.
• Manage the fleet budget, forecasting expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in fleet management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or directorial role.
• Extensive knowledge of fleet operations, maintenance, safety regulations (including national road transport legislation), and financial management.
• Proven experience in managing large and diverse vehicle fleets.
• Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in fleet management software and relevant technologies.
• Demonstrated success in implementing cost-reduction initiatives and improving operational efficiency.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and be eligible to work in South Africa .
