Reporting to the CFO, you will manage daily accounting, month-end close, and cross-border flows while establishing robust processes for stores and online sales. The role includes multi-currency handling, stock oversight, VAT coordination, and opportunities to broaden exposure through SA projects.

Qualifications

• Post-qualification accounting experience, including reconciliations and month-end close.
• Experience with financial reporting and management reporting.
• UK or EU accounting practice experience is highly advantageous.
• Retail, e-commerce, or FMCG with stock oversight desirable.

Job description

Own the finance function for a South African retailer’s newly launched UK business and play a key role in its international growth.

Role Overview

A growing retail business with international operations is hiring a Financial Controller in Cape Town. The role offers ownership of an overseas finance function and direct mentorship as the business expands.

Reporting to the CFO, you will manage daily accounting and month-end, establish finance processes, and deliver reporting across stores and online sales. Your remit includes inventory oversight, cross-border payments and coordination of tax and statutory requirements. There is scope to grow with the international business and gain broader exposure through selected South African projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Run daily accounting and month-end close, including bank and card reconciliations and transaction allocations.
• Establish expense, card-spend and reporting processes alongside operational management. Reconcile inventory movements and work with planning and buying teams on stock information.
• Manage multi-currency transactions, supplier payments and international banking flows.
• Coordinate UK and EU VAT and statutory requirements with external accountants to meet filing deadlines.
• Produce management reports and margin analysis for store and online sales.
• Support budgeting, finance setup for new stores and selected projects in the South African business.

Qualifications & Experience

• AGA(SA), PA(SA) or CIMA(Strategic Level), with 1–2 years of post-qualification experience.
• Hands-on accounting experience spanning reconciliations, month-end, and financial reporting.
• UK or EU accounting practice experience is highly advantageous.
• Retail, e-commerce, or FMCG experience involving stock and inventory oversight is highly desirable.
