Placements24 is seeking a Field Service Technician in Richards Bay to install, maintain and repair telecom equipment at customer sites and network facilities. You will be the on‑the‑ground face of the company, ensuring optimal network performance and customer satisfaction in the KwaZulu‑Natal region.

The role requires hands-on problem solving with fiber optics, antennas, and base stations. Travel within Richards Bay and surrounding areas is expected, with safety and documentation as priorities.

Qualifications

• Relevant technical qualification or certification in telecommunications or electronics.
• 2–3 years of field service experience in the telecom industry.
• Proficiency with OTDRs, meters and other test gear.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and test telecom equipment (fiber, antennas, base stations).
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance of network infrastructure.
• Diagnose and repair faults in telecom systems with troubleshooting methods.
• Respond to service calls and emergencies to minimise downtime.
• Adhere to safety protocols and company procedures on-site.
• Maintain accurate service reports, logs, and inventory.

About the Role

Our client, a significant provider within the telecommunications infrastructure space, is actively seeking a skilled and proactive Field Service Technician to join their team in Richards Bay . This critical role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems at various customer sites and network facilities. You will be the face of the company on the ground, ensuring that network infrastructure is functioning optimally and meeting client needs. This is a hands‑on position for an individual who enjoys problem‑solving in diverse physical environments and contributing to the robust delivery of telecom services in the KwaZulu-Natal region.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and test telecommunications equipment, including fiber optic cables, antennas, and base stations.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on network infrastructure to ensure operational reliability.
• Diagnose and repair faults in telecommunication systems, employing effective troubleshooting methodologies.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime for clients.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and company procedures while working on‑site.
• Maintain accurate service reports, logs, and inventory of equipment and parts used.

Requirements

• Relevant technical qualification or certification in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Field Service Technician in the telecom industry.
• Proficiency in using test equipment such as optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs), signal generators, and multimeters.
• Understanding of fiber optics , wireless communication technologies, and network cabling standards.
• Valid driver license and a willingness to travel extensively within the Richards Bay area and surrounding regions.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
