Placements24 is seeking a Field Service Technician to join our power systems team in Upington. You will travel to client sites to install, commission, maintain, and repair generators, engines, and turbine control systems, ensuring uptime and reliability.

Ideal candidates have a technical diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, 3+ years in field service, and strong diagnostic and customer communication skills. A valid license and willingness to travel are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a Field Service Technician.
• Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with power generation equipment (generators, turbines) is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple sites.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and mechanically inclined Field Service Technician to join their power systems team in Upington. In this role, you will travel to client sites to install, commission, maintain, and repair a variety of power generation equipment, including generators, turbines, and associated control systems. You will be the primary technical point of contact for customers, ensuring their equipment operates efficiently and reliably. This position requires strong diagnostic skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional travel and site-specific requirements. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the operational uptime of vital energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform installations, commissioning, and start-up of power generation equipment at customer sites.
• Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and diagnostic testing on various power systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on equipment.
• Provide technical support and training to customers on equipment operation and maintenance.
• Maintain accurate service records, reports, and inventory of spare parts.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental regulations during all field operations.

Requirements

• Technical degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent trade certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Service Technician, preferably with power generation equipment (generators, engines, turbines).
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency in reading technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Excellent customer interaction and communication skills.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel extensively to various project sites.
