Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to join our technical services team in Cape Town, focused on power generation equipment. The role combines on-site maintenance, diagnostics, and repair with remote support and reporting in a hybrid model.

You will troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control systems, travel to client sites, and deliver performance testing and customer training, with a view to minimizing downtime and ensuring optimal plant operation.

Qualifications

• Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
• Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer, preferably in power generation or industrial equipment.
• Strong knowledge of power plant operations, thermodynamics, and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and measurement equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on power generation units including turbines and generators.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and implement corrective actions.
• Provide on-site technical support and customer-facing service.
• Conduct pre-commissioning checks, start-up procedures, and performance testing.
• Deliver technical training to client staff on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
• Maintain service reports and spare-parts inventory for calls.

About the Role

The role requires a blend of hands‑on technical expertise and strong customer‑facing communication skills, working within a hybrid model that balances field operations with occasional remote support and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of power generation units, including turbines and generators.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Respond promptly to customer service calls and provide on-site technical assistance and repair services.
• Conduct pre‑commissioning checks, start‑up procedures, and performance testing of newly installed equipment.
• Develop and deliver technical training to customer staff on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
• Maintain accurate service reports, documentation, and inventory of spare parts for assigned service calls.
