Job summary

JVR Software seeks an IT Support Technician to install, configure, and maintain hardware, servers, workstations, routers, and switches. You will diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues and provide on-site customer support.

The role requires strong network troubleshooting, Windows/Linux experience, and willingness to travel to client sites for installations and support.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years' experience in IT support, field service or technical support.
• Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field advantageous.
• Grade 12 (Matric) required; Driver's License preferred.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, servers, workstations, routers, switches, and peripheral devices.
• Install, update, and troubleshoot operating systems and software applications.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware and software-related issues efficiently.

Network Support

• Configure and support LAN/WAN environments.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and optimise network performance.
• Assist with network upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Provide on-site support to customers and end-users.
• Respond to service requests and resolve technical issues.
• Replace faulty hardware and ensure proper integration into existing environments.
• Perform testing and quality checks to ensure systems meet performance standards.

Documentation & Administration

• Maintain accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and SOPs.
• Ensure site credentials and technical records remain up to date.
• Document troubleshooting processes and resolutions.
• Work closely with internal technical teams to resolve complex issues.
• Assist with implementing system improvements and upgrades.
• Mentor and support junior engineers through training and knowledge sharing.

Travel & Emergency Support

• Travel regularly to customer sites as required.
• Participate in after-hours and emergency support when critical issues arise.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Valid Driver's Licence.
• Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field will be advantageous.

Experience

• 2-5 years' experience in the office automation, IT support, field service, or technical support environment.
• Proven experience with on-site installations, troubleshooting, and customer support.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of computer hardware, servers, workstations, routers, switches, and peripherals.
• Experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
• Networking experience including LAN/WAN setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of IT infrastructure, diagnostics, and testing procedures.
• Knowledge of basic IT security principles and best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Adaptable and comfortable working in various customer environments.
• Physically capable of handling hardware installations and equipment.
• Willingness to travel extensively and participate in standby or emergency support when required.
